Rencontres de la photographie en Gasp\u00e9sie will be welcoming the artists from the 14th edition of the event for Rencontres on Tour, from August 17 to 20, 2023. This unique event, which brings the public and artists together, offers a series of encounters on the subject of creation \u2013 screenings, guided exhibit tours, discussions and so on \u2013 in different places between Carleton-sur-Mer and Gasp\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Carleton-sur-Mer, Thursday, August 17, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch of Rencontres on Tour will take place on Thursday, August 17, starting at 4 p.m. at the Quai des arts in Carleton-sur-Mer, in the presence of the artists. The public is first invited to tour the exhibition Le livre photographique<\/em><\/strong> (The Photographic Book) at the Gabrielle-Bernard-Dub\u00e9 library, which is presenting books by guest artists at Rencontres 2023 and more recent titles issued by \u00c9ditions Escuminac, the publishing house of Rencontres. Afterwards, a tour of the exhibit Le chant des caresses <\/em>(The Song of Caresses)by Lara Gasparotto<\/strong> (Belgium) is scheduled at the Vaste et Vague artist center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 7:30 p.m. presentations and screenings will be held at the Quai des arts Studio. Excerpts from the texts Psaumes picards<\/em> (Picardian Psalms) by Philippe Garon<\/strong> (Gasp\u00e9 Peninsula) and De l\u2019impr\u00e9visibilit\u00e9 potentiellement mortelle de l\u2019orignal<\/em> (On the Moose\u2019s Potentially Fatal Unpredictability) by Patrice Juiff<\/strong> (France), written during exchange creation residencies undertaken in France and Qu\u00e9bec, will be offered to the public. The complete texts by these authors will be the subject of an exhibit in the Gasp\u00e9 Peninsula and in France, as well as of a work to be co-published by \u00c9ditions Escuminac and Diaphane \u00c9ditions in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, the following artists will present screenings of their work: Cristian Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez<\/strong> (Ontario), who is exhibiting Valle<\/em> (Vally) in Matapedia; Miguel Leache<\/strong> (Spain), who is offering R\u00c1PIDO REM<\/em> in Pointe-\u00e0-la-Croix; Chieko Shiraishi<\/strong> (Japan), who is exhibiting Shikawatari <\/em>(Deer Crossing) in Carleton-sur-Mer; Cince Johnston<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec), who is presenting Freddy and Ceydie<\/em> at Maria; and Sami Blais<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec) \u2013 by videoconference, in this case \u2013 who is exhibiting The Last Floor <\/em>in Nouvelle.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 10 a.m., in the foyer of Quai des arts in Carleton-sur-Mer, the public can attend the roundtable Parole aux artists!<\/strong> (Let the Artists Speak!), hosted by Louis Perreault, offering discussions of the challenges surrounding the publication of a photobook. After this, Rencontres on Tour will continue with guided exhibit tours in the presence of the artists. On the program at noon: a tour of Shikawatari<\/em> (Deer Crossing) by Chieko Shiraishi<\/strong> (Japan), on the quay in Carleton-sur-Mer; at 2 p.m., a tour of Freddy and Ceydie<\/em> by Cince Johnston<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec) at the Vieux-Quai park in Maria; at 3:30 p.m., a tour of the exhibit Les affluents<\/em> (Tributaries) by Louis Perreault<\/strong> (Montreal) on the site of Mus\u00e9e acadien du Qu\u00e9bec, in Bonaventure; and at 6 p.m., a tour of Carcasse<\/em> (Carcass) by Normand Rajotte<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec) at Pointe-Taylor Park in New Richmond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These will be followed at 8 p.m., at Camp \u00e0 Jos in Pointe-Taylor Park, in New Richmond, screenings and presentations by Normand Rajotte<\/strong>, by Louis Perreault<\/strong>, Zayn\u00ea Akyol<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec) \u2013 the last of whom is presenting N\u00dbJEN, the Women Soldiers<\/em>, in Gasp\u00e9 \u2013, and Sarah Boutin<\/strong>\u00a0(Qu\u00e9bec) \u2013 the last of whom is presenting\u00a0La pri\u00e8re a sa place parmi la m\u00e9lisse, le thym, le feu, la baignoire, le lit, l\u2019h\u00f4pital<\/em>\u00a0(Prayer has its place amid the lemon balm, thyme, fire, bathtub, hospital) in Pasp\u00e9biac \u2013 in the presence of these artists. At 10:30 a.m., a guided tour of the exhibition La pri\u00e8re a sa place parmi la m\u00e9lisse, le thym, le feu, la baignoire, le lit, l\u2019h\u00f4pital <\/em>(Prayer has its place amid the lemon balm, thyme, fire, bathtub, hospital) by Sarah Boutin<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec) is scheduled for the boardwalk in Pasp\u00e9biac, in the presence of the artist. Following this there will be exhibit tours of I Have Been There<\/em> (photographic mission in Charlevoix) by Chun Hua Catherine Dong<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec) near Cantine du Chenail in Chandler; A bloom in the eye of the storm <\/em>by Guillaume Tomasi<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec) at the church in Grande-Rivi\u00e8re; as well as Quaderno di un\u2019isola<\/em> (Notebook of an Island) by Ilaria Abbiento <\/strong>(Italy) and Deepland<\/em> by Roselena Ramistella<\/strong> (Sicily, Italy) in Perc\u00e9 (Charles-Robin historical sector in \u00cele-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Perc\u00e9 national park) in the company of Claude Goulet, executive and artistic director of Rencontres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 5 p.m., the public is invited to the town of Gasp\u00e9 for a guided tour of the exhibit N\u00dbJEN, the Women Soldiers <\/em>near the Horacio Le Boutillier house in the presence of the artist Zayn\u00ea Akyol<\/strong> (Qu\u00e9bec). Lastly, at 6 p.m., a tour of the exhibition Heureux hasard<\/em> (Lucky Accident) by Dolor\u00e8s Marat<\/strong> (France) will take place at Mus\u00e9e de la Gasp\u00e9sie, with commentary by Claude Goulet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Petite-Vall\u00e9e, Sunday, August 20, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 10 a.m., a tour of the exhibit Burning <\/em>by Marine L\u00e9cuyer (France) will take place on the beach of Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la Vieille-Forge, in Petite-Vall\u00e9e, in the company of Claude Goulet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following these three crowded days of Rencontres on Tour, other stand-alone activities (e.g., creation residencies) will be taking place until mid-September. The exhibitions, meanwhile, will run until September 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
