Presented for the most part outdoors, the exhibits and installations will showcase the work of 16&nbsp;artists from Qu\u00e9bec and abroad. The great majority of them will run from July 15 to September 30, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the title of a text by French author Patrice Juiff, written during a residency in the Gasp\u00e9 in the fall of 2022, that inspired the theme for this year. \u201cWhen I read the text, which Patrice describes as a sort of literary road trip, a narration of mental roaming in the Gasp\u00e9 with the aim of getting to know people, the territory and the beauty and fragility of the landscape, I wanted to draw inspiration from his encounters and his story in imagining the programming,\u201d explains Claude Goulet, executive and artistic director of Rencontres. \u201cVery quickly, Patrice agreed to lend us his words.\u201d Excerpts from Patrice Juiff\u2019s text will incidentally be released on the occasion of Rencontres on Tour, in August 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u00c9dition 2023 | Rencontres de la photographie en Gasp\u00e9sie\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/834410700?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To see in the C\u00f4te-de-Gasp\u00e9 RCM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la Vieille-Forge site in <strong>Petite-Vall\u00e9e<\/strong>, the exhibition <em>Burning <\/em>by <strong>Marine L\u00e9cuyer <\/strong>(France) invites us to the vestiges of a world on fire, where humankind is confronted with its disappearance. In the town of <strong>Gasp\u00e9<\/strong>, near the Horacio LeBouthillier house (west of the other Birthplace of Canada buildings), <em>N\u00dbJEN, the Women Soldiers<\/em> by <strong>Zayn\u00ea Akyol<\/strong> (Montreal, Qu\u00e9bec) presents a series of photographs on the female-gender war against the Islamic State. And at Mus\u00e9e de la Gasp\u00e9sie, from June 21 to September 30, the exhibit <em>Heureux hasard<\/em> (Lucky Accident) by <strong>Dolor\u00e8s Marat<\/strong> (France) displays a series of photos imbued with elements of the dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To see in the <\/strong><strong>Rocher-Perc\u00e9 RCM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <strong>Rocher-Perc\u00e9 RCM<\/strong>, the Charles-Robin historical sector in \u00cele-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Perc\u00e9 national park, in the town of <strong>Perc\u00e9<\/strong>, will host the exhibitions of two photographers from Italy.<strong> Ilaria Abbiento<\/strong> will be presenting<em> Quaderno di un\u2019isola<\/em> (Notebook of an Island. This series is a poetic narrative that grew out of a residency of the artist\u2019s on an island in Sardinia. The park will also host <em>Deepland<\/em> by <strong>Roselena Ramistella<\/strong>. In it, the artist, who traveled on the back of a mule on age-old paths in the mountains of Sicily, depicts the rural landscape and the life of communities.In <strong>Chandler<\/strong>, the park in front of Cantine du Chenail will be hosting <em>I Have Been There<\/em> by <strong>Chun Hua Catherine Dong<\/strong> (Montreal, Qu\u00e9bec), bringing together images of her photo mission in Charlevoix. This project takes its place in a continuing performance by the artist as she explores belonging, diaspora and existence in public spaces. Finally, the exhibition\u00a0<em>A bloom in the eye of the storm<\/em>,\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>Guillaume Tomasi<\/strong>\u00a0(Montreal, Qu\u00e9bec), will take place at the church L\u2019Assomption-de-Notre-Dame, in\u00a0<strong>Grande-Rivi\u00e8re<\/strong>. Through the gaze of the artist directed at his children,\u00a0this exhibition focuses on the anxiety-producing conflict we are experiencing while we continue enjoying our daily routines in the context of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To see in the Bonaventure RCM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sarah Boutin<\/strong> (Montreal, Qu\u00e9bec) will be presenting on the boardwalk in <strong>Pasp\u00e9biac<\/strong> the exhibit <em>La pri\u00e8re a sa place parmi la m\u00e9lisse, le thym, le feu, la baignoire, le lit, l\u2019h\u00f4pital<\/em> (Prayer has its place amid the lemon balm, thyme, fire, bathtub, hospital). The artist, who suffered the loss of her grandmother, documents her day-to-day life in images as she endeavors to learn to deal with the absence. Near near the tidal lagoon on the site of the Mus\u00e9e acadien du Qu\u00e9bec, located in <strong>Bonaventure<\/strong>, <strong>Louis Perreault<\/strong> (Montreal, Qu\u00e9bec) will be exhibiting <em>Les affluents<\/em> (Tributaries), a photographic project that gathers together a succession of images on the themes of family, nature and the continuous cycles that animate them. In <strong>New Richmond<\/strong>, Taylor\u2019s Point Park will be hosting <em>Carcasse<\/em> by <strong>Normand Rajotte <\/strong>(Montreal, Qu\u00e9bec). This series features images captured by surveillance cameras at the foot of Mont M\u00e9gantic, showing an immemorial cycle of animal life where the death of some allows others to exist.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To see in the Avignon RCM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maria<\/strong> will host the exhibit <em>Freddy and Ceydie <\/em>by <strong>Cince Johnston<\/strong> (Sainte-P\u00e9tronille, Qu\u00e9bec). This project documents the lives of two Belgian natives \u2013 one of them Ceydie, the photographer\u2019s daughter \u2013 ten years after receiving a liver transplant following the death of a man in Croatia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three exhibitions will be taking place in <strong>Carleton-sur-Mer<\/strong>. On the quay, the series <em>Shikawatari<\/em>&nbsp;(Deer Crossing) by <strong>Chieko Shiraishi (Japan)<\/strong> is composed of images of a herd of deer in the winter landscapes of northern Japan, on the island of Hokkaido. The Vaste et Vague artist center will meanwhile be welcoming, from July 25 to August 31, 2023, <em>Le chant des caresses<\/em> (The Song of Caresses) by <strong>Lara Gasparotto<\/strong> (Belgium), a series of images that intermixes the human and nature in all its forms, and brings out the beauty at the heart of fog. Finally, the Gabrielle-Bernard-Dub\u00e9 library will welcome, from August 15 to September 15, 2023, an exhibit consisting of photographic books by artists taking part in the 14th edition of the event, as well as works published to this point by \u00c9ditions Escuminac, the publishing house of Rencontres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Miguasha National Park<\/strong>, in Nouvelle, will host <em>The Last Floor<\/em> by <strong>Sami Blais <\/strong>(Qu\u00e9bec City, Qu\u00e9bec) outside the former visitor center. This project features Ulric and Ghitta Lejeune, a couple who left Europe after a bankruptcy and who have remade their life in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. The <strong>Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site<\/strong> in Pointe-\u00e0-la-Croix will be presenting <em>R\u00c1PIDO REM<\/em> by <strong>Miguel Leache<\/strong> (Spain). To carry out this series, which shows dozing passengers on the Tokyo subway system, the artist delved into the cultural, economic and biological reasons that lead them towards sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the exhibition <em>Valle<\/em> (Valley) by <strong>Cristian Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez<\/strong>, a Chilean artist living in Toronto, Ontario, will be presented at the Deux-Rivi\u00e8res Lookout in <strong>Matapedia<\/strong>. Here the artist explores Chile\u2019s Huasco Valley, focusing on its communities and attempting to understand the role played there by multinationals and their rationale of development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rencontres on Tour<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From August 17 to 19, 2023, this unique event, at the heart of Rencontres, will bring together visitors, artists and the local population for encounters on the subject of creation: open-air projections, discussions with the artists, guided exhibit tours, and so on. The full program will be announced in early August 2023 on <a href=\"http:\/\/photogaspesie.ca\">photogaspesie.ca<\/a>, in the Events section.
