The\u00a0<\/span>L\u2019Imagier<\/span>\u00a0Art Centre<\/span><\/a>, Rencontres\u00a0<\/span>internationales<\/span>\u00a0de la\u00a0<\/span>photographie<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>en<\/span>\u00a0Gasp\u00e9sie\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Loto<\/span>-Qu\u00e9bec<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>are very pleased to announce the\u00a0<\/span>s<\/span>e<\/span>lection\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>Aislinn Leggett\u00a0<\/span>to carry out the Photographic Mission in the\u00a0<\/span>Outaouais<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>region i<\/span>n 2020-2021.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A native of the small community of\u00a0<\/span>Namur,\u00a0<\/span>in the\u00a0<\/span>Outaouais<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the artist will be called on to\u00a0<\/span>document\u00a0<\/span>o<\/span>n<\/span>e or more<\/span>\u00a0aspects\u00a0<\/span>of the contemporary landscape in the area where she grew up<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The results of her research will then be presented at\u00a0<\/span>L\u2019Imagier<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Art Centre<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>Gatineau,\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>n 2021,\u00a0<\/span>and later at\u00a0<\/span>Rencontres\u00a0<\/span>internationales<\/span>\u00a0de la\u00a0<\/span>photographie<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>en<\/span>\u00a0Gasp\u00e9sie\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>n 2022.\u00a0<\/span>It will be recalled that this artist has already presented the series\u00a0<\/span>Enter the Great Wide Open<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0<\/span>Rencontres\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>n 2012.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Like many people, Aislinn Leggett<\/strong> is uncertain how the rest of the year will unfold, with COVID-19 upending our way of life and our interactions. What she proposes, therefore, in the framework of this project, is a solitary look at the\u00a0<\/span>landscape and the importance of preserving biodiversity<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Setting\u00a0<\/span>off from previous projects and taking inspiration from artists like Andy Goldsworthy<\/span>, the artist seeks to\u00a0<\/span>explore the idea of land art and landscape interventions<\/span>. She will\u00a0<\/span>endeavor\u00a0<\/span>to alter the space by moving elements within the landscape to create ephemeral sculptural installations<\/span>. She will integrate\u00a0<\/span>wool and material that once belonged to her grandmother<\/span>. \u201c<\/span>Leaving my mark will be a visual reminder of the human imposition on\u00a0<\/span>nature,\u00a0<\/span>reminding that the smallest gestures impact our natural resources<\/span>,\u201d explains the artist. Her process will be documented\u00a0<\/span>through written reflections and video and still photography. She will be using a\u00a0<\/span>large-format (<\/span>4×5<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>camera<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aislinn Leggett<\/strong> anticipates, during her residency,\u00a0<\/span>talking with family members and with people from the area to discover more possibilities and other sites that could have a historical or ancestral connection to her roots<\/span>. The artist feels privileged to document the landscape through photography and convey what she sees.\u00a0<\/span>The camera becomes the tool that enables her to record her interventions and reveal her outlook and opinion on the fragility, balance and determination of the landscape she explores<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The medium selected is a powerful means for depicting reality and, in this case, of socioenvironmental, sociopolitical and\u00a0<\/span>sociogeographic<\/span>\u00a0themes<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the artist\u2019s wish that\u00a0<\/span>her photographs contribute to the dialogue on the mounting concerns of the state of the environment. The Photographic Missions<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Created in 2016 by Rencontres with the backing of the\u00a0<\/span>Minist\u00e8re<\/span>\u00a0de la Culture et des Communications and then supported, since 2019, by\u00a0<\/span>Loto<\/span>-Qu\u00e9bec<\/span><\/a>, the\u00a0<\/span>Photographic Missions<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>each\u00a0<\/span>consist in\u00a0<\/span>doing\u00a0<\/span>a series of photos bearing on the landscape of a Qu\u00e9bec region. They will cover, between now and 2024,\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>given the necessary financing, the entirety of the Qu\u00e9bec landscape.
