In 1872, the Carleton-sur-Mer lighthouse comes to life: a steady red light turns on. Since the 19th century, each of the 14 lighthouses along the Gaspesian coastline has had its own score, consisting of steady or flashing lights and, when fog moves in, repeated audible alerts. Let’s sit down for a moment, between two blasts of the foghorn, and lend an ear to the quiet dialogue of slumbering giants as they drift and share stories with one another. They’re stories of humans, their neighbors, captured nearby. They speak of music, of eldorado, of fishing, of memory, of the land that we defend, that we leave and that we find again. A sound creation composed between September 2024 and August 2026.

Taïssia Froidure is a sound artist from France. On French radio she produces shows and podcasts on a broad range of topics. Outside the studio she conjures up sound pieces in collaboration with the residents of villages she passes through, recording all the sounds on site and composing music using the instruments, sheet music and musicians she finds there. Her residency is one of the artist-in-residence exchanges organized with Pôle photographique Diaphane, the French partner of Rencontres.
