Kiss Landing is a work that brings together photographs taken over a 10-year period in Montreal and in Casablanca, two cities between which Fatine-Violette Sabiri has traveled back and forth since childhood.

The book’s title, Kiss Landing, is an aviation term that refers to a type of landing in which the aircraft touches down gently. While this sort of landing may be less jarring for passengers, the flip side is that it tends to damage the plane’s wheels because the rubber gets burned. The metaphor, here, aptly describes the feeling of being caught between the two towns that the photographer hails from: if coming to a country holds the promise of a reunion, it necessarily entails a break with the place left behind.

The portraits, landscapes and still lifes found in Kiss Landing probe the notions of friendship, hospitality and intimacy, all the while seeking to analyze the meaning of “home.”
