Chien de sang is a photographic project that explores the enduring presence of Catholic heritage as it persists within the landscape of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, through the intimate interplay of its natural and built environments. Drawing on visual motifs associated with the Gothic, this body of work brings together images of natural and architectural sites marked by disappearance and erasure, rendering the Laurentian landscape as a space where the profane and the sacred converge. Imbued with a spectral atmosphere, the project invites viewers to consider this landscape as one haunted by fragments and absences, where religious heritage and remnants of the built environment remain inseparable, and whose meaning remains elusive.
This exhibition reflects the work carried out by the artist in 2025 to document the contemporary landscape of the Lower St. Lawrence. It is part of a photographic mission supported by Loto-Québec and conducted in collaboration with the Espaces F centre in Matane.

Clara Lacasse is interested in the construction of narratives related to history, nature, science, and the collective imaginary. With a focus on the photographic image, Lacasse’s work supports critical reflection on visual culture and on the image as an instrument of knowledge and power.
She is a recipient of the New Generation Photography Award (2022) presented by the National Gallery of Canada and Scotiabank. Her work has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
